Traveling throughout Europe, Lizsa studied and learned from the works of old masters. She graduated from the American School in London in 1982. Through the Maryland Institute College of Art, Baltimore, she studied four months in Florence, Italy, and received her Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in 1986.
Painting “Plein-air” and from her own photos, Lizsa probes the corners of individuals’ worlds. A bicycle and pitchfork leaning against a shed, a well-used rocker on a shady porch and abandoned boats are just some of the subjects she explores. While painting on location and working in all kinds of weather, Lizsa is able to capture the true effects of color in sunlight and shade. By experimenting with her palette, she intensifies the mood and subject in her work and challenges viewers to look closer at colors seen versus what is perceived. Lizsa can often be found locally capturing a moment in time. “I feel the sounds, smells and energy surrounding me are as important to the creative process as the visual subject.” Primarily working in oils, Lizsa is able to create her images quickly, capturing those moments before they “get away.”
Lizsa has exhibited and sold paintings through juried and group shows and galleries throughout Maryland, and has won several awards. Her Instagram site has brought several commissions, allowing her to sell her paintings across the United States. She was an active member of the Kent Island Federation of Art, the Maryland Federation of Art in Annapolis and the Working Artists’ Forum, Easton. Lizsa moved to Virginia in January, 2024, and looks forward to exploring her new surroundings and continuing her passion for life and art.
