For the month of December the RAL Art Center, 19 N Main Street, Kilmarnock is full of activity. The Holiday Shop with member hand made items for sale, the Snowmageddon Auction, and the Annual Photography Show are all special events.
RAL member artists and photographers were challenged to produce their best shot for the December Photo Exhibit. The images on display represent a wide variety of subject matter on canvas, metal and traditional, and include many creative choices. The awards were announced at the First Friday reception on December 2.
Michael Geissinger judged the RAL Art Center’s Annual Photography Show. A graduate of the Rochester Institute of Technology with a degree in Photography and through an assignment in the US Air Force, Michael landed at the White House as a staff photographer during the Lyndon Johnson administration. He has taught and traveled extensively for years, and continues to photograph for clients and corporations. The Northern Neck is now his home base.
Geissinger chose “The Tide Coming In,” a photograph by CarolAnne Taylor for First Place. He said this photo very effectively captured the moment to exhibit the dynamic strength of the flowing tide in Maine. It had good use of space to accentuate the power of the water against the static nature of the shoreline.
Second Place was awarded to “Glamour Shot,” a 50’s Chevy grill by Cyndie Conner Smith, and Third Place went to “Apple at Work,” a manipulated image of apple pieces on a plate by Patricia Lawler.
Honorable Mentions were awarded to “Overlooking the York,” a photo of the York River Bridge at night by Mary Ellis, and “Natural Roots.” a photo of distorted rings of a tree trunk by Terry Willis.
This exhibit will remain on display until December 31, Tuesday through Saturday from 10 AM to 4 PM.
