February is all about love and winter at the RAL Art Center, 19 N Main Street, Kilmarnock. “You Have Captured My Heart” also captured First Place for Laurie Breakwell’s fused glass in the EXPRESSIONS OF LOVE exhibit. Doug Mock, Executive Director of the RAL Art Center and award winning watercolor artist and instructor, judged the two February exhibits. He stated that Laurie’s work of art was fantastic and executed with precision and mastery of the medium. The love the artist has for her medium shines through with this beautiful piece and deserves to be rewarded.
Second Place was awarded to “Wild Thing,” a hand bound portfolio by Barbara Brecher. Third Place went to “BFF Beautiful Dreamer,” an acrylic by Debra Bull.
Honorable Mentions for EXPTRSSIONS OF LOVE went to:
“Explosive Hydrangea,” oil on canvas by Christine Mason
“Full Color,” watercolor by Barbara Kershner
“Forever,” photograph by CarolAnne Taylor
“Lunar Conversion” an oil on canvas by Laura Edwards received First Place in the WINTER BLUES exhibit. Doug remarked that he was immediately drawn to the strong diagonal composition and its asymmetry along with a powerful analogous color palette, and that he kept coming back time and time again. It begged to be awarded first place.
Second place was awarded to “Winter Moon,” oil and cold wax by Mary Ellis. Third place went to “Winter Chill,” photograph by Harold Burnley.
