Some Kind of Wonderful

Something wonderful is happening at the RAL Art Center for the month of May. The art center is full of great art. Along with the Art in Transit exhibit “Some Kind of Wonderful” will be on display until May 28 at 19 N Main Street.

Sherry Hodges judged the current exhibit, and awards were given at the May 6 First Friday reception. Sherry holds a degree in Fine Arts from the College of William and Mary and a Masters Degree in Art Education from Virginia Commonwealth University.

Sherry chose “Is That a Bee?” a pastel by Mel Neale for first place. Hodges stated that the composition, color choices, light to shadow, and texture variations kept her coming back.

Second place went to Harold Burnley for his photograph, “Sharp Top Mountain.” Third place was awarded to Laurie Breakwell for her fiber creation, “Nature Upcycled.”

Honorable mentions were given to the following:

“Early Spring,” acrylic by Dave Hershiser

“Red Awning,” photograph by Ron Taylor

“Overachiever,” oil by Karen Williams

“It’s a Wonder,” oil by Laura Edwards

“Brandon,” dyes, pen and ink by Bob Casazza
