Painting Workshop – Acrylics or Oils

This one-day workshop will focus on selecting personal and original subject matter (if working representationally, using your own original reference photographs); composition and design and techniques.  Students can work in their own original style whether realistic, impressionistic, abstract, primitive, etc. Workshop will include short presentations, individual critiques and possibly short demos. Students will be given printed materials by the instructor about many of the aspects of painting presented in the workshop.

After registering students will be emailed materials list and some of the documents mentioned above and receive a phone call from the instructor to answer any questions about preparing for class. If you will be working from reference photos they should be taken by you! If you don’t have strong drawing skills, you will have the option to use my projector to transfer the photo image to a drawing on your canvas. If so, photo should be good quality no larger than 4” x 6” and your canvas 16” x 20” or larger. If you are working abstractly or from your imagination or memory, bring several small black and white or color drawing sketches about your idea for your painting. If you like, bring up to 3 unfinished or completed paintings for critique (please bring 6-8 photos for us to choose from).
