Linda C. Hollett-Bazouzi www.lindahollett.net lchollett@verizon.net
In my studio and plein air work I often try to capture moments and views of sites that are under-appreciated or ignored. Even more, I try to capture the feeling associated with those views. My work is not about documentation; it is about passage. It is about impressions. It is about the moment.
“Alla prima, au premier coup—all at once, first strike. My best work has always been about this process. Whether outside or in the studio, once I’ve completed my thoughts and worked out my plan, I work until the painting is done, in a very direct manner, usually without layers. I paint with a palette knife and water-miscible oils.
“I work from memory and my photographs, sketches and impressions. I have recently begun working in gouache and experimenting with egg tempera, as well as leaving work in a finished/unfinished state.”
Hollett-Bazouzi taught art in Henrico County Public Schools for 35 years, as well as adult art classes at J. Sergeant Reynolds Community College, and workshops for teachers. She is a member of Oil Painters of America and is a docent for the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts. Hollett-Bazouzi is currently lead artist for the Virginia Plein Air Painters.
