THE RAL ART CENTER ANNOUNCES AWARDS FOR THE 60th ANNUAL LABOR DAY ART SHOW

The 60th Annual Labor Day Art Show Awards were given out at a special reception and awards ceremony on Friday, September 3 at the RAL Art Center. Ron Mihills was MC, and Doug Mock did a special visual awards presentation for the participating artists. Mary Ellis and Barbara Kershner co-chaired this event and Robin Caspari was the judge.


Robin stated that it was incredibly hard to judge this event, since all 125 pieces of work were deserving of an award in their own right. She chose the following:


BEST IN SHOW went to Wende Szyperski for her oil, “After the Company.”

The judge said this was a well executed Mid Major Key painting with very pleasing harmony of color, shapes and values.


MEMORIAL AWARDS were awarded to the following:

Donald R. Kennedy Memorial Award (Most Creative Use of Color) - “Yellow Malayan Coconuts,” oil by Juli Schuszler


Patricia F. O’Shaughnessy Memorial Award (Best Traditional) - “Holy Crab,”

watercolor by Carol Vaughn


Anne D. Hayes Memorial Award (Excellence Overall) - “After the Bath,” graphite by Michael Dirle


Sharon K. Mundy (Best Use of Media) - “Magical Midnight Garden,” wool felted on silk base by Barbara Brecher


Sibyl Bayne Memorial Award (Excellence in Watercolor) - “Spots and Stripes,” watercolor by Doug Mock


Marge Alderson (Best Interpretation of Landscape) - “Iris Morning,” acrylic by Brenda Sylvia
