The Magic of Watercolor Painting "Sea Life"

This two-day workshop is open to all watercolorists who would like to engage in furthering their knowledge of expressive painting, while also learning some interesting techniques that may be considered somewhat “less traditional”! Students will need to provide several reference photos of a sea life animal they would like to work on while in this class. The instructor will give a daily demonstration and have completed painting examples of what can be accomplished in the creation of a beautiful sea life watercolor. Come ready to explore this beautiful medium leaving with new inspiration and dynamic ways of painting when working with watercolors

LIST OF SUPPLIES: 

Professional Grade watercolor paints of your choice – Suggested colors: Cad Yellow, Medium or Dark Cad Red, Medium or Dark Quinacridone Magenta OR a nice hot pink (Opera; Fuchsia), Ultramarine Blue OR Cobalt Blue Manganese Blue OR Phthalo Blue, Hookers Green OR Viridian Green, Titanium White OR White Gouache, and Mars Black. 

Brushes: Have a variety of quality or synthetic watercolor brushes including; a fine “liner” brush and a “rigger” brush is also helpful for detailing. 

Watercolor paper – 200 to 300 lb paper is suggested. *If using 140 lb. paper, please have your paper pre-stretched and attached to a board before class *You may also paint on a watercolor canvas if desired. 

Paper Towels and/or tissues, coarse sea salt if you would like to try “salt” techniques, pencil and eraser, apron or old shirt, plastic water bucket, watercolor palette, with lid if possible, photo copy references of your subject (Please do not depend on your phone for references). If taping your paper to a board, please have drafting tape or masking tape, a Hairdryer if you have one. Also bring a bagged lunch and beverage.
