BRUSHES: Brushes can be very expensive but good brushes help to create better paintings. A good set to start with might be the Cheap Joes AMERICAN JOURNEY BRUSH COMBO SKU # CJAJ-COMBO. It includes a 1/4”, 1/2” and 1” flat; a 2” round handled wash; a #2, 4, 6, 8 and 12 ROUND; a #1, 3 and 5 rigger and a #2, 4, 6 and scrubber and comes in its own case.
Another suggestion would be the starter sets of American Journey Synthetic Brushes: SKU# AJB-1 set; SKU #AJB-2 set; AJTB-SET or the AJB – 3 set.......all priced economically.
Any of the Cheap Joe starter sets will be fine.......making sure that you have at least a round in several sizes, several flats and a fine lined detail brush within the set. A RIGGER is also very useful. We will be painting larger, more free formed paintings, so larger brushes are excellent for this class. I highly recommend a fine lined brush and a RIGGER BRUSH as well.
PAPER: If purchasing a watercolor pad, please make sure it is larger in size...at least a 16 x 20 ....and preferably 200 to 300 lb paper. If not 200 or 300 lb, please make sure you purchase a “Watercolor BLOCK” style paper. *We will NOT BE
STRETCHING PAPER in this class. Strathmore, Crescent, Waterford or Canson papers are suggested. Or for those who wish to purchase large individual sheets, I recommend any 200 to 300 lb paper, hot pressed if you wish to paint on a smooth surface or cold pressed for a more textured paper!
