Oil and Cold Wax Workshop

Kathleen’s “Creative Abstraction” workshops challenge the artist to loosely interpret every subject.  It is her painting and design class for artists who would like to “loosen up” and escape the confines of detailed painting and drawing by working with artist oil paints mixed with cold wax medium.  The focus of instruction will be “deconstructing” shapes and colors to create expressive “abstracted” paintings with emphasis on color variations in the landscape.  All levels are welcome.

Supply List: (Kathleen will have some supplies to share)

artist grade tube oil paints in your favorite colors plus black and white

Masterson oil palette or freezer paper for oil palette

Nitrile disposable gloves

poppy oil or linseed oil for cleanup

wet wipes, paper towels and a bag for trash

old watercolor and oil paint brushes, silicone shaper brushes

Gamblin cold wax medium (for oil painters) **see below if using acrylic paint

“matte” tube acrylics for underpainting (optional but speeds painting time as it dries quickly)

Ampersand Gessobord 12” x 12” (2 or more flat or cradled)

2” blue tape for cradled panels and/or to attach flat panels to cardboard supports

flat cardboard or clean pizza boxes to assist in moving wet panels

“trowel” type palette knives

tools for mark making - bubble wrap, textured paper, stencils, white tissue paper, etc.

Messimeister brand silicone bowl scraper

sketchbook and graphite pencils for sketching

plastic or kneaded erasers

pencil sharpener

vine charcoal for drawing on your dried underpainting

Saral transfer paper in white or graphite color - I will have some to share

your own non-copyrighted photos of flowers, seascape, landscape, birds, etc.

** Required if using acrylics instead of oils: “Powerwax” (water-based cold wax)
