About the Event
Join other artists, gardeners, and nature lovers to learn a bit about the history of botanical illustration, the basics of how to observe flowers, and how to scientifically render illustrations of what you observe. No past experience or expertise in botanical art or drawing is required. This workshop will help you keep a better garden or nature journal, record growth of your plants, or record observations when out on a hike or nature walk.
The workshop will consist of two parts. The morning session (9-12) will be an introduction to the history of botanical drawing, the basics, and the foundation. The morning session is a “pre-requisite” for the afternoon session, however, there is no obligation to remain for the afternoon session if you already have experience with drawing and are more interested in the background. The afternoon session (from 1-4) will focus on the observation and botanical illustration focused on flowers. You will practice drawing with a graphite pencil. Using a light-box (instructor provided) you will transfer your drawing in order to either line over it with ink or watercolor paints.
All experience levels are welcome. Feel free to share this workshop information with your fellow naturalists, gardeners, artists, and anyone who is a nature enthusiast.
Supplies: Instructor will provide class supplies; you just need to bring your curiosity and lunch.
