Monthly Themed Exhibits

The Stouffer Exhibit Room is the site of our monthly themed exhibits open to all RAL Art Center members.  Up to two pieces of original art are accepted for each exhibit from any active member for a nominal fee.  Each exhibit is judged with ribbons awarded.

The Great Art Heist

June is the month for this very special ticketed event.  Original artwork valued above the ticket price is donated by members and includes the work of our co-op artists.  Each ticket is randomly drawn, giving the holder the chance to select the artwork of their choice to take home.  A silent auction of donated artwork, craftwork and special items from local sponsors is part of this event as well.

The Labor Day Art Show

Since 1961, RAL has staged this Art Exhibit in the month of September, transforming the entire Gallery into exhibit space.  Again, this special show is open to all active members.  Monetary awards and ribbons, monetary memorial awards and a Best-In-Show silver bowl are presented each year by a well-known judge.

The Holiday Shop

December sees the Stouffer Exhibit Room transformed into a wonderland of holiday gift items handmade by our members and co-op artists and priced at $100 or less.  This is a popular place to "shop local" for special, original gifts for family and friends.

A Touch of Red

February 2021 Exhibit --  A Touch of Red

Cerise, crimson, claret, coral, ruby or vermillion, all are shades of red.  The color most associated with February is the theme for our February member’s show.  Choose your red, and let it dominate your piece of art, or subtly slip it in where least expected.  Just make sure it’s there!

Blooming' Art

April 2021 Exhibit -- Bloomin’ Art

Waiting for Spring is an annual ritual and RAL Art Center’s Spring Show, Bloomin’ Art, featuring gardens, plants and flowers is a Northern Neck tradition. Our artists create their visions of Spring – a garden coming to life; a flower starting to bloom; a landscape or water scene enhanced by nature’s revival. Join us for an uplifting exhibit. The exhibit opens on Thursday, April 1st and runs through Saturday, May 1st, Thursdays through Saturdays from 10:00AM to 4:00PM. Receiving is on March 29th from 10:00AM to 12:00PM

Monochromatic Maddness

March 2021 Exhibit -- Monochromatic Madness

Turn on your creative spirit and enter your one-of-a-kind piece(s) for this exciting, first-time exhibition.  Your subject matter can be anything you’d like, but your masterpiece must be executed using a monochromatic color palette.  Monochrome art presents the viewer with one predominant color mood, aura, or statement.  It can be a “true” monochrome dependent on a single steady tone or on subtle tonal variation.  Will your creation be in black and white?  Will it be in varying tones of ONLY one color?  We are excited to see your entry!

Still Life

May 2021 Exhibit ~ Still Life Show

A still life is an artwork depicting inanimate objects, either natural or manmade, in an artistic arrangement. Objects can be very personal to the artist, or they might be of a universal theme, with flowers in vases or fruit and vegetables. For this month’s show, try adding drama to your setups with strong lighting or background treatments, or mystery with unusual relationships among your objects. Or you might go cubist or surreal, or traditional if you wish--anything goes, as long as your subject is “Still Life.”

Receiving: May 3, 2021 10AM to 12PM

Exhibit Dates: May 6 - May 29
